This year many cities and counties will strive for Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) Green Local Government certification. Local governments are recognizing the benefits of incorporating sustainable strategies to reduce operational costs and protect the environment. The good news is that most local governments are already practicing environmentally sound Best Management Practices that will qualify for points towards FGBC certification.
The average Green City certification takes 1 to 2 years if a local government has a dedicated person or team to compile the submittal. We completed the assessment and submittal for City of Palm Coast in 4 months (certified Silver) and City of South Daytona in 2 months (certification pending). In talking to our clients we find that cities and counties are short staffed and it is sometimes difficult to assign a full time employee to work on the project. Our green consulting services can cut submittal time by 50% to 75%. We concentrate on the assessment for certification while government staff continues to focus on city/county business.
